Virtualization is an abstraction layer that decouples the physical hardware from the operating system to deliver greater IT resource utilization and flexibility.

Virtualization allows multiple virtual machines, with heterogeneous operating systems to run in isolation, side-by-side on the same physical machine. Each virtual machine has its own set of virtual hardware (e.g., RAM, CPU, NIC, etc.) upon which an operating system and applications are loaded.

The operating system sees a consistent, normalized set of hardware regardless of the actual physical hardware components.

Mitsol makes use of VMware’s enterprise products to deliver state-of-the-art hosting solutions. VMware is the world’s leading provider of virtualization solutions and services. Through a pioneering virtualization approach, VMware solutions separate the operating system and application software from the underlying hardware, delivering significant improvements in efficiency, availability, flexibility and manageability.

With a customer base of 20,000+ organizations of all sizes, VMware delivers technology designed to substantially lower IT costs, provide more flexibility in choosing operating systems, and offer a more automated and resilient systems infrastructure capable of responding to variable business demands.

VMware Virtualization vs. Traditional Hosting Solutions

Hosted VMware virtual machines are superior to shared hosting or a virtual private server (VPS) because they get their own dedicated operating system and are fully isolated from other virtual machines on the server hardware. As a result, customers no longer have to worry about having their hosted service overrun by another service on the same box.

Hosted virtual machines deliver better availability than dedicated servers because they can be migrated from one server to another with no downtime. Hosted virtual machines are also easier to scale without purchasing additional hardware, and more secure because each virtual machine is completely abstracted from the hardware and isolated from other virtual machines.

As a Microsoft Certified ASP, we are entitled to ‘rent’ software licenses to customers on a monthly basis. ASP licensing has been of significant assistance to customers facing the prospect of Microsoft’s new licensing programs, which in addition to the traditional upfront costs, now requires significant on-going expenditure.

Under this service, a customer chooses to let Mitsol acquire the necessary software licenses through various Service Provider License Agreements (SPLA). Mitsol then becomes the licensee of the software and will ‘on-rent’ it to its customers. The two ways of licensing on this basis are Subscriber Access License (SAL) and CPU Access License (CAL).

Per User Licenses

In the SAL mode, a License is required for each unique individual authorized to use the software in any given month.

Additional Benefits of the per subscriber model include:

  • Subscribers can access any number of servers from any number of devices.
  • Subscribers can “scale out” by deploying as many servers as they need.

Per Processor Licenses

When licensing via the CPU licenses, an unlimited number of end users can use the software running on a single CPU for each CPU license acquired.

Additional benefits of the per CPU model include:

  • CPU licenses are easier to monitor and count, which lowers the service provider’s administrative costs.
  • CPU licenses are economical across a variety of business scenarios where the utilization of the software may vary.
  • CPU licenses replace Internet Connector licenses, eliminating the need to distinguish between Internet, intranet, and extranet users.

Mitsol’s Server Service Component Monitoring ensures that your Internet-based services are always available.

We will configure and monitor the availability of your server or services (up to 5 per IP) from an off-site location, and if your dedicated server or TCP services become unavailable, alerts are instantly sent to any email addresses specified by you (up to 5). SMS notifications are also available.

Mitsol’s Server Resource Component Monitoring guarantees that your server is always running at peak performance. We set predetermined thresholds for your CPU, Disk and Memory, and if any of these thresholds are reached, alerts will be sent to any email addresses specified by you (up to 5).

As well as alerting you to potential performance deteriorating situations before they occur, Server Resource Component Monitoring also empowers you to make more qualified decisions about your Internet hosting environment.
